more growing up

My oldest daughter turned 14 this week.  Which is really very hard for me to believe!  I promise you, it was yesterday that Bill & I were brand new parents fumbling around with our little infant who loved to fall asleep in the swing (and as a brand new parent who said I’d *never* let my baby sleep in a swing, it was a bit worrisome… and now we can totall laugh at ourselves for stressing over such little things).

We took her and her classmates to dinner on Friday night to Shogun.  It was a HUGE hit!  Even for the kids who weren’t too terribly adventurous with foods still said it was the BEST dinner ever.  And we ended by totally embarrassing Abby with them singing the happy song in Japanese.  I totally ran out the door with my camera too!

The girls then came back here for a sleepover, complete with photo sessions… and at least a zillion wardrobe changes.  I’m thinking I really need to market my portrait parties more for teen/tween girls parties… they could have gone on all night (and almost did!!).

I was supposed to be bogged down all weekend with more design work, but the materials weren’t ready, so I was able to actually get a nap in on Saturday, which was SO SO nice after slumber party lack of sleep.

Annual Fund Drive for Now I Lay Me Down To Sleep

With the Month of October being recognized as Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month, The Now I Lay Me Down To Sleep Foundation holds its Annual Fund Drive for six weeks starting in mid-September and ending in October.

President Ronald Reagan enacted Proclamation 5890 in October of 1988 to recognize that each year, approximately a million pregnancies in the United States alone end in miscarriage, stillbirth, or the death of a newborn child.  Reagan stated, “A national observance offers us the opportunity to increase our understanding of the great tragedy involved in the deaths of unborn or newborn babies.  It also enables us to consider how, as individuals and communities, we can meet the needs of bereaved parents and family members… ”

still editing

and having too much fun.  My goal is to finish up and have them uploaded for you tomorrow, C!

all about thomas

Thomas had his first “homework” for preschool.  He thought this was absolutely the coolest thing ever.  We had to answer little questions about him and glue a photo of him on the paper, and Mrs. Clark will put them all together into a book they can take turns bringing home.

So here is his little “autobiography” :

My name is Thomas.

I am 3 years old.

I was born on October 22 in St. Louis.

I have 3 brothers and 3 sisters.

I have 0 pets.

My hobby is Legos.

My favorite color is blue. (which was a shock to me!  it has *always* been orange!)

My favorite food is bagels.

I know how to play on the computer.

My best friend is Mrs. Clark.  (is he already a brown-noser?)

When I grow up I plan to be a Daddy.

growing up

My oldest boy, Billy, now that he is in 5th grade, can go to our school’s mixers.  Abigail (8th grade) was okay with it, as long as he promised not to bug or embarrass her… and then he made her promise the same thing to him.  He was excited… and that’s an understatement.  He showered, picked out some “cool” clothes, had me help fix his hair, and even sprayed on a bit of cologne.  I somehow talked him into letting me snap a few photos.  I also realized these may be the last with his braces on, as he gets them off on Wednesday.  I thought he looked crazy handsome!

g diapers

I was recently introduced to this product.  As a former cloth diapering mom who just got overwhelmed with laundry, these excite me.  (well, as much as *diapers* can excite a person)  They seem to me, to be the best of both worlds.  Friendly to the environment, but no extra work involved.

The website can explain them much better than I can:  g Diapers

I just started using these for Sophie and have been pleased so far.

a rather busy day

but just a rather typical day it seems with 7 kids.

Today was Thomas’ special day at preschool… which simply means he gets to bring an adult with him for the day, he’s the leader, brings snack, and gets to set the snack table.  After we dropped the bigger kids off, we ran to Bread Co. to pick up a few sliced bagels, his favorite snack he wanted to share, got some juice and grapes from Dierberg’s and headed to his big day.  It was so much fun seeing him interact with his little friends!  He just adores school and that makes me so happy!  I completely walked off without my camera too.  Boo!

We headed home for lunch with Daddy who had stayed home with Sophie.  I got to work a bit on some assignments I have with a fast approaching deadline.

After we picked up the big kids from school, it was a mad dash home to get them all a quick snack and change for soccer practice and a volleyball game.  (and by the way, we saw a slew of police cars flying by as we headed home, and my boys were thinking they were going to a bank robbery… and we have since found out, indeed there was a hold-up at the Commerce Bank in Fenton).  First to soccer practice, drop off two boys… then off to Abby’s volleyball game in Affton.  But I couldn’t really stay at the game, since I needed to get the boys picked up by 6 and her game wouldn’t end until 6:30… so back to Fenton we went.  And then they didn’t get released until 6:15… so I feeling super guilty that Abby (and her coaches) had to wait on me to get back to retrieve her.

It doesn’t seem like so much typing it, but I assure you, it felt like a mad dash the whole afternoon… so I was not in the mood for going home to cook (but that’s not so unusual really).  We met up with Daddy at the kids’ most favorite place to eat… Cici’s Pizza.  Oh, how I loathe that place, but it was cheap, quick, and I was assured everyone would be happy and no complaining.

Then the typical home to bathe everyone, get homework done, and everyone settled into bed.  Whew!  Picking up the house will just have to wait for tomorrow.  I’ve got some work to do while the house is nice and quiet!

the P girls came to visit today!

and we had a really fun maternity session.  Oh to be so cute when pregnant!

Maternity sessions are always a favorite for me!  Here are a few peeks from today’s session.

just in case…

anyone thinks my kids are easy subjects to photograph:

dsc_4978.jpg

I think that’s why I have so much patience for my clients’ children… because no child has ever been more difficult than any of my seven children!  So I never want my clients to apologize or get upset if they think their child is being less than cooperative.  This is why I decided to start this business, really.  Because I know as a parent how difficult getting photographs can be and I wanted a more personalized and relaxed option.  And I love my job!  Because after all the tricks and acting silly to get their attention, if I just get one of these, it’s all worth it!

Sneak Peek for the J Family

I just love watching my littlest clients growing!  I was lucky enough to photograph beautiful Baby K when she was just a little bitty newborn.  Now she’s a busy bouncing happy baby!  She was a delight!  Big Brother N had a much better time playing with our toys, but I found the thing he loves to talk about most.  John Deere tractors and Monster Trucks.

Thanks for coming out today, J Family, I love you all to pieces!

Here are a quick few favorites!
